VOL. 61, No. 3, October 19, 2006

We met today at Randolph School with our Junior Optimist Club, known as the ROC (Randolph Optimist Club), to install their officers for the year. We enjoyed a barbeque spread from Lawler's arranged by Duane Plank.

Lt. Gov. Alberto Duarte was master of ceremonies. Some spontaneous humor crept in when the newly installed repeated the oath that Alberto read to them. Some of the responses seemed to have a Spanish accent.

YOUTH CODE

I Promise to:

Honor my parents and those to whom wisdom has come through experience,

Respectthe beliefs of others,

Prize friendship and keep its sacred trust,

Seek intellectual growth, physical development and avoid abuse of mind and body,

Be diligent and give each task the priority it merits,

Strive to be courteous at all times and truthful with everyone I meet,

Practice thrift and put material matters in proper perspective,

Respect all living things and help maintain the balance of life,

Work to preserve our form of government and the freedoms it guarantees.

I will value independence of mind and develop self-reliance, setting high goals in life and dedicating myself to the service of others.

Pres. Sidney Sandridge spoke to the ROC, expressing his best wishes for a successful year, and for the fellowship we all enjoyed together today. He assured them that we'd have more such fellowship meetings over the course of the school year. I thought members might like a copy of the Youth Code, so I've included it this week.
