Pres. Sidney Sandridge kicked off today's first meeting of the new year by calling on Chaplain Burns for the invocation and pledge of allegiance. It was good to have John back after his missing several times. It was good to start the year with two enthusiastic guests: Harold Wright brought Clayton Hanna and Will's guest was Bruce McLeod (sp?). Will made some award presentations to members who didn't attend last week. Then Sidney announced that Duane Plank would be filling our vacancy on the board created when Byrom Goodwin became 2nd VP. Assignments for key roles include Winkler as bulletin writer, Ferrell will continue as photographer, and Billings will handle community relations. Binner will be Sgt. at Arms (come back soon, friend). Renz will be parliamentarian and Goodwin will be foundation representative (this post needs some clarification). Next, Sidney got right into a discussion of committees. Below is my cut at their make-up:

Committee Chairs spoke briefly on their goals. Next week 10/ 12 Tom Howell from one of the other Optimist Clubs will tell us about Old Cars. On 10/ 19 Alberto has our meeting scheduled for the Randolph School Library where well participate in the installation of officers for the ROC, our Junior Club. The Huntsville Optimist Foundation will meet on Wed., 10/25, at 4:00 in Paul Fowler's office. Dave Schultz won the prize today.
