VOL. 60, No. 13, January 26, 2006

Vice President Sidney Sandridge presided over today's meeting. He called on Duane Plank for the invocation and pledge of allegiance. Sidney reported sadly that President Will Dawes sister had died after a lengthy illness, and that the club had sent flowers.

Duane announced that it was 3 years ago to the day that he had undergone triple by-pass surgery, and he wanted to express his gratitude for his recovery. Clyde Nevins said that letters will be sent out next week to those organizations we provided funding to last year in; order to learn of their current needs, and if we could support them again. Tom Casteel gave a summary of events to play out Jan. 27-29 at the District Meeting out at the airport. George, Carl and Hershel have been tabbed to be recognized during the Saturday breakfast. Nelly Duarte is still quite ill and is staying in Huntsville to be close to her doctors. Duane Plank suggests that cards could be sent to her Lacey' s Spring address, and that Alberto would get any messages to her.

Carl Winkler was our speaker today, introduced by January Program Chairman Sidney Sandridge. He spoke about the beginnings of Optimist International following World War I, and the beginnings of our club following World War II.

Our Program Chairman for February is Ed Clark. It looks like he has a good variety of programs planned, e.g., on the 2nd Lynn Thruston of Camp Smile-A-Mile will be our speaker, on the 9th Tony Lavoie will tell us about the proposed Robotic Lunar Expedition, and on the 23rd Mary Flynn from the Hawthorne Conservatory will bring our program.

Old lucky Clyde Nevins did it again, He took away the attendance prize.
