VOL. 59, No. 24, April 14, 2005

Alberto called our meeting to order Thursday with a smile and a welcome to all who were attending. Duane Plank gave thanks for the food and fellowship. We then recited the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag. We then feasted on good country cooking of catfish, potatoes and macaroni and cheese.

Alberto reported the board met on April 5th and had nominated the following as officers: Tom Casteel, 1st Vice-President and James Overbeek, 2nd Vice-President. Rebecca Billings, Karen Peterlin and Dr. Byron Goodwin were nominated to our board of directors. Tom Casteel announced his son successfully defended his dissertation. Alberto announced that the ROC had a donut sale and sold 200 dozen and will send the donations to Camp Smile-A-Mile. They are also planning on cleaning up the Botanical Gardens in the near future.

Next came our weekly history lesson so named "Moments in History." In 1935 Loretta Lynn was born, Julie Christie was born in 1940, President Lincoln was assassinated in 1865, the "Titanic" sunk in 1912, we bombed Libya in 1986 and Russia withdrew from Afghanistan in 1988.

Important dates to remember are May 2nd for the Respect for Law Banquet to be held at Mayfair Church of Christ. On May 3rd there will be a board of directors meeting.

George Ferrell then introduced our special guests of the day, the Young and the Restless Band. They were led by Jim Pearson. The band played an assortment of bluegrass from the Black Mountain Drag, I'll Fly Away, Rocky Top (Booooo!), Orange Blossom Special and Yankee Doodle. Boy, could that fiddle player fiddle. Fred Binner gave us all dance lessons to the Matchbox Blues. Thank you George for the entertainment.

The business meeting is next week at Optimist Park. Make sure you sign up for the Respect for Law Banquet. Zach won the attendance prize.
