VOL. 61, No. 49, September 27, 2007

2nd VP Byrom Goodwin was in charge today - both Pres. Sidney Sandridge and Pres.-Elect Connie Gipson being out of town. Byrom called on today's guest speaker to offer the prayer of thanks. Then we pledged allegiance to our colors. We had about 25 in attendance, including Terry Duboise - guest of Howard Wright. Byrom reminded us of near-term up-coming club events. By the time you read this our pancake breakfast will, hopefully, have been a rousing success. Our newly elected Board meets Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 4:00 pm at First Commercial Bank on Whitesburg Drive. One order of business will be to name a new Board Member to serve out the one year remaining of Al Renz's term on the Board. As you know Al will be VP next year.

Please note that on Thursday, Oct. 4 we will meet at the ORC at 6:00 pm. Club Officers and Board Members will be duly installed by our new Zone Lt. Gov., Linda Presley. Linda is a member of the Noon Club. Let's- have a good turnout with many guests to celebrate a year of fellowship and service, and stand with Sidney Sandridge and sip a slug of cider through a straw and send him into Past Presidency: Speaking of Presley, Sidney says he expects Elvis to drop in to our meeting. Dr. Huckaby will give a motivational speech, Sidney will review events of the past year, and Connie will disclose her plans for 2007/2008. Ken Gibbs from the Arab Club will cater the meal.

Soon to be Past-Governor Tom Casteel thanked the club for its support during his term as District leader. Our club led all clubs in participation in his dime-a-day program to fund Optimist scholarships. Tom recognized Jim Roe and John Shirey as the most recent contributors.

Jeff Klimek introduced today's speaker, Thom Ewing, General Manager of WAY-FM (WAYH 88.1), a local Christian radio station. Thom said they try to meaningfully serve our city in much. the same way that we do - youth work. and community service. They attempt to target the 18-34 age group with their programming, and always tune in to God for guidance in making all decisions. Jinn Roe won the $$$.
