VOL. 61, No. 45, August 27, 2007

Pres. Sidney Sandridge called on Lt. Gov. Duarte for today's opening prayer and pledge of allegiance. We had a good turnout, including spouses Dorothy Clark and Elizabeth Cancer. Some of our newer members thought Past-Pres. Will Dawes was also a guest. It was good to have Will back just in time for our pancake breakfast. Alberto gave us the status of our breakfast planning. Jeff Klimek has had tickets printed and gave out packages of 10 for each member to dispose of. Jeff also will pick up the pancake grill from Mullin's. Will Dawes is in charge of arranging for all food. Tammy Westmoreland has compiled a detailed list of what is needed, but Tammy won't be there since she'll be involved in a wedding that day (I believe it's her son getting married). Alberto said our 2 JOOI Clubs will be selling tickets for the event as will the members of the Central Presbyterian Church. Parents of Hawthorne Conservatory students have volunteered to work on that day. It sounds like things are in good shape. Will urged us not to accept any excuses when selling tickets. If someone says they have a conflict tell them what important youth work the proceeds support and ask them to buy the tickets anyway and give them away if necessary.

Alberto asked that as many members as possible attend the installation of officers for the Randolph JOOI Club to be held in the Randolph Library, Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 12:30 pm. Food will be served. Al Castelli had 4 door prizes from the Buick dealership that he failed to get to the District Convention, so we awarded them today. Sidney Sandridge and Duane Plank won oil changes, and Bob Martin and Ed Clark got caps.

Before Duane Plank introduced today's speaker he commented about our not winning the Chamber of Commerce competition for the most outstanding non-profit organization. It turned out his wife Elaine is active in the organization that did win. They are involved in supporting women in business. Today's speaker was Steve Ragsdale, CEO of the Bridge Street Town Centre, taking shape adjacent to Cummings Research Park. Steve's presentation took us on a simulated boat ride across the lake, under the bridge and onto the lake on the other side, with views of the buildings. along the way. Later we enjoyed a ride by car through the development. The 4-Star Westin Hotel will be the project's focus. It will have the largest ballroom in Huntsville and will feature 1,2 and 3 bedroom apartments on several upper floors. These apartments are priced at $400 per square foot and Steve -said selling them will not be a problem. Bridge Street will have 60 shops and restaurants and a 14-screen theater. Opening is set for early November. This was a fiery timely and excellent program. Program Chairman for September is Jeff Klimek. See calendar below for what we have in store. Al Castelli won today's attendance prize.
