VOL. 61, No. 26, April 12, 2007

Duane Plank gave the invocation today, and then led us in the pledge of allegiance. Pres. Sidney asked for guests to be introduced. Perry Law's guest was his co-worker at the Career Center, Kathy Evans. Duane's grandson from NY was his guest. Gov. Casteel said our club leads the District in Optimist International's dime-a-day for scholarships program. Lt. Gov. Duarte reminded us all to plan to attend the Zone-wide Respect for Law program Monday May 7 at the Mayfair Church of Christ. The meal will be served starting at 6:30 pm, and the' cost has been set at the very reasonable $9.00 per plate. Matt Hancock hopes for a good turnout on Thursday April 26 at 6:30 at the Trinity United Methodist Church on Airport Road. This will be our annual YAW (youth appreciation week) Banquet where we honor selected young people for their achievement and excellence. There will be no luncheon meeting on that day. Members attend the YAW Banquet at no additional charge; but will be billed $10.00 for any guests. A tasty spaghetti dinner is on the menu. Dave Schultz asked all Band Instrument Committee members to contact their middle school band directors to learn who they plan to honor this year, and when and where the concert will take place. Be sure to pick up all band room plaques and get the required information to the trophy facility on Washington Street in a timely way. Direct any questions to Dave.

George Ferrell introduced our speaker today - Ann Vaughn Commander of the 8th Air Force Historical Society. She showed many historical papers and other items from WW II days. Also, she invited everyone to visit the Veterans Museum located in the old airport area to review these items. George, himself, served with distinction in the 8th Air Force - participating in 30 bombing missions as a B-24 engineer and gunner. His service was described in a Certificate of Valor. He was awarded the, Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with several Oak Leaf Clusters. I believe we have a bonafide hero in our midst - Tech. Sgt. Ferrell.

Al Renz is Program Chairman for May and has an outstanding lineup of programs. See the calendar below. Nate Showers was attendance prize winner today.
