VOL. 60, No. 43, August 31, 2006

President Will Dawes called on Al Renz to open today's luncheon meeting with a prayer, followed by the pledge of allegiance. Will passed out 10-ticket packages to our pancake breakfast fund raiser Sat., Sept. 16, 7:30-11:30 am, to all members in attendance. Furthermore, he will mail 10-ticket packages to all not in attendance and he is looking for $5 for each ticket - no returned tickets. So, get busy. It's really a good value.

Will introduced his guest Mark Ralph (?) from his New Horizons company. He added that Mark is a recognized world-class instructor. Duane reported that Fred Binner has one more chemo treatment scheduled in Dec. Following that he hopes to resume meeting with us. Ed Clark said Dorothy is doing well. Al Castelli said he is doing O. K. Tammy Westmoreland passed around a sign-up sheet for pancake breakfast workers.

Duane introduced our speaker, Bryan LeComple, who described the proposed Fair Tax Act. We had a good turnout today, indicating a keen interest in the subject. Essentially the Fair Tax Act is a National Sales Tax that has several appealing features, and is gaining much congressional support. It is advertised as abolishing the IRS with its many thousand pages of tax code, and replacing it with a simplified approach that can be filed on a 5"x8" card. It eliminates double taxation and minimizes record keeping on the part of the individual. One wonders if the deep-pocketed lobbyist fraternity would ever allow our lawmakers to pass such legislation. The Question & Answer discussion following the presentation had to be curtailed since the meeting was way past our customary adjournment time. The speaker gave away 2 books describing the act in detail. We drew names from. our attendance prize box and the books were won by Will and Alberto. The regular attendance prize went to . Thank you.

Pres. Will asked for board members to make every effort to attend the 9 / 5 meeting where recommendations about changes in dues and meeting places will be finalized.
