VOL. 60, No. 26, April 27, 2006

Pres. Will Dawes presided over today's luncheon meeting at the Downtown Holiday Inn. He asked chaplain Burns to say grace and lead the pledge. We had a good attendance (about 30, including guests). Phillip English was Will's guest, David Walker was Howard Wright's guest, Larry Osborne was the guest of Casey Boardman, and Bill Clarke's guest was his son Matt. Hopefully some of these guests will opt for membership. Will announced that Fred Binner will start cancer treatment on Friday. Our sincere prayers go out to Fred and Martha Sue. Zack reported that Al Castelli continues to make steady progress following his fall earlier, and he looks forward to the time in the near future when he'll be back with us to keep us on track. Will thanked those who volunteered to help the 4-H club recently.

Zack introduced today's speaker whom George Ferrell had arranged to relate first hand experiences in Iraq. First Sgt. Johnny Whisenant, Company B, 279th Signal Batallion -gave a very moving account of military life in the desert. He is confident that the Iraqi people need and are grateful for the American effort. Furthermore, Sgt. Whisenant added that he was confident that the military could take control of our northern and southern borders if given the opportunity. Sgt. Whisenant was given an enthusiastic standing applause for his dedicated patriotic service over the last 35 years.

Dave Schultz reminded the club that our annual "Respect for Law" meeting will be Monday, May 1, at the Mayfair Church of Christ (corner of Garth and Carl Jones Drive). There will be no luncheon meeting on Thurs. May 4. Bill Clarke encouraged members to support those presenting band awards by attending band concerts during May. George Ferrell's name was drawn for the attendance prize, but since he wasn't present the loot went to Chev.
