VOL. 60, No. 23, April 6, 2006

Pres. Will Dawes presided over today's meeting at the Downtown Holiday Inn. He called on Al Renz for the invocation and pledge of allegiance. We had a good turnout, approaching 40 counting guests. Jean Mulcahy was the guest of Duane Plank, Grace Buell was the guest of Buddy Beck, Lee Saylors was the guest of Al Renz and Jim Pearson was George Ferrell's guest. Grace is looking for 4-H volunteer judges for their 4-H Round-Up at ORC (Optimist Recreation Center) on the 20th. Clyde is coordinating this. Since the judging starts at 8:00 am you can probably still get to our regular meeting on that day.

It was good to have Joe Sloan back with us today. He admitted that our scheduled bluegrass music program had a lot to do with this. We hope you'll get in the habit of attending regularly again, Joe.

Al Renz gave a short talk on Optimism, and qualified to move to the next level in the PGI (personal growth and involvement) program administered by Duane.

George Ferrell introduced Jim Pearson, Jr., leader of the Young and Restless bluegrass group; featuring violin, mandolin, guitar, banjo and bass. Jim, in turn, introduced the other players; Rod Walker, Melvin Layns, Charlie Scott and Jim Derrington. Jim Pearson handled most of the vocals with the guitar player adding a 2nd voice. They performed country and gospel music for about 30 minutes, including Rocky Top which got a standing ovation from Joe Sloan. They concluded with Amazing Grace. We wished they could have continued longer. This was their 3rd Optimist Concert, and Will told them to expect another invitation about this time nxt year.

Our speaker next week will be from the Huntsville YMCA. On the 27th Johnny Whisnet, 1st Sgt. from Iraq, will relate some first-hand experiences. Byrom Goodwin won the attendance prize. It pays to be present. Pres.

Will would like for all Club Board Members to be prepared for about a 20-minute important meeting, following next week's regular meeting.
