VOL. 59, No. 34, Jun 23, 2005

Gay Pepper filled in at the last minute today for incoming President Will Dawes. Alberto was absent attending a function with Fabiani in Lincoln, Nebraska, while Will had a work emergency. I think these happen to just about everyone. Gay called the meeting to order and asked Chaplain Hershel Bingham to give thanks and lead the pledge of allegiance.

Zach Thompson announced that he still had the winning ticket to sell for the drawing of the DVD/CD player. Tim Brumlow had his father, Bill, as his guest today. We also had long time member Dr. Joe Pullen in attendance. Welcome back Dr. Pullen! Dr. Sidney Sandridge reported that Will Sanderson was feeling better and appreciated everyone who had called and checked on him. Duane Williamson went back in the hospital last week and was released and was said to be doing OK. Get well guys. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Connie Gipson introduced today's speaker, Rachel Swindle. She is Director of Development and Public Relations with the Harris Homes for Children in Madison County. This is a home for foster children. She described the foster care program where the children live on the campus next to Oakwood College. The home also has a residential treatment program for males who go to counselors to get therapy on everyday problems. Also an after school care program for children who live at home but have supervision after school to help keep them safe. The home is funded through DHR and many referrals come from them also. The home will have a golf tournament August 19th at Hampton Cove Highlands Course to help raise money. Donations are also accepted. Thank you Connie for the fine speaker and thank you Rachel for coming.

The time came for the drawing for the DVD/CD player and when all was said and done, Gay Pepper took home the prize. Maybe Gay can have the club over for a movie marathon in the near future.

Thanks to Zach who could improvise the attendance drawing with tickets we had left over from the prize drawing. Our name pieces were missing so we used these. Congratulations to Tim Brumlow for winning for the first time. His dad must have been a good luck charm.
